Smelling Like A Rose

Once again ~ I'm LOVING my new book: "The Chicks with Sticks ~ Guide To Crochet" by Nancy Queen & Mary Ellen O'Connell. I knew the minute I saw these darling washcloths pictured on page 73 that I just HAD to make some. The timing is just perfect for some cute little, quick to make up, Valentine gifts.
The yarn I used is Debbie Bliss Pure Cotton in dusty rose with a dusty teal center. The colors are so pretty and the cotton is so soft and who doesn't love anything Debbie Bliss comes up with?! Her designs and yarns are at the top of my list of favorites. So this morning I'm off to my local yarn shop, Ewenique Yarns, {where not only do I have stalker status, I was actually the very first customer in the door when they opened a few years ago!} to buy another color or two to see what pretty combinations I can come up with. Naturally, I already had 5 skeins of PINK in my stash! Plus there was that partial skein of the teal left over from a cute little baby shrug I knit a couple of years ago.
I really like how puffy these washcloths look on one side. The fun thing though is that they are pretty on both sides. I can just imagine how heavenly it will feel to cleanse your face with one or lather one up with some pretty scented soap and soak in a nice warm bubble bath. Ahh... I can hear that bathtub calling my name.

Hi Danette! My name is Becky and I found you through Gracious Hospitality...and I'm glad I did. I'm not a knitter, nor do I crochet, but your blog is lovely, and these washcloths just make me happy!

My Mom was an absolutely amazing knitter, and just visiting you brought so many sweet memories of her into my mind. She couldn't resist a yarn sale, and had BAGS of yarn stuffed everywhere for her next project.

My Dad would come home and see new bags and say, "What's for dinner, yarn soup again?"

Well, I will definitely be back!
Your handwork is beautiful!!

Have a joyful day!

Good Morning Ladies~
To the new Becky~ I am honored that my work reminds you of your mother. I couldn't ask for a more precious compliment. And I will definitely be serving up some "yarn soup" for supper tonight! I think it will fall into my vegetarian guidelines.
Looking forward to visiting with you more in the future.:)

To the pre-existing Becky~
I don't have any washcloths made up for the Etsy shop yet, but will pretty soon. Won't they be great Mother's Day gifts too? I do know where a certain crochet queen could get the pattern though.

To Tracy from the lovely "Pink Purl" {check her blog & Etsy shop everybody} ~
I will most definitely have a happy day among the roses! It's supposed to be in the mid 60's here today. Yay!!!:) But I won't let the nice weather keep me from my yarn work!
You have a lovely day as well {among the snowflakes, still?}

Danette, These are so pretty! I continue to be amazed by all the lovely options when it comes to crochet. I'll have to look for that book!

Becky's comment about "yarn soup" made me laugh and I'm sure my husband would laugh, too. I've been stashing away fabric for years, now I guess yarn is next!!

Hmmm... Yarn Soup, Fabric Soup,...
We could just call it FIBER Soup!
After all, aren't we all supposed to strive for more FIBER in our diets? YAAARN ~ it's just what the doctor ordered.

danette, these are just to pretty! When i was growing up Mother always had wash clothes and towels she kept put up, when she would get them out we knew company was coming and she would warn us not use the wash clothes and towels, they were for our guest. if she would of pulled these out I would of thought the Queen was on the way! what a heart felt letter from the new Becky, makes my heart feel happy, and I dont even knit, I have herd that knitting is very therapeutic. My father-in-law told me when he was in the ER with grandma, a big burly man covered in tattoos was knitting like crazy. The image made me laugh out loud. Hey Becky number 1 are you the crochet queen?

I thought I was the frog queen because of my tendency to "rip-it, rip-it" when I'm crocheting and mess up. I have to confess something. I made myself a scarf and last night, frogged nearly the whole thing. It's that shell pattern, Danette, and it wasn't symetrical. Drove me crazy & I knew I couldn't wear it like that. So it's back on the hook again. But, yeah, Kathy, if that new title was meant for me, I'll wear it with honor!

By the way, "New Becky," I love your dad's yarn soup comment!

I dont mean to interrupt the knit talk and I hope Danette wont mind me using her blog as a forum, for a big concern of mine. I really would like some feed back from any one out there. Just took time to go to school for a parent meeting. get there and 3 Americans 30 Mexican mothers with at least 1 baby many with 2 and most expecting. the lady who was in charge is our school interpreter(English to Spanish). I only knew that this was a parent meeting, didnt know what the meeting would be about. My concern is that the meeting turned quickly to the Americans and how we should come to the School on Thursday evening to learn Spanish, so we could communicate with the Spanish speaking people in our community and school, also we were told that we should have much compassion for these mothers who can not speak English and we were told how great the Mexican Mothers were because they are at school for everything and they had so many hardships that we as Americans dont understand, it went on and on. All 3 of us American Mothers just sat and smiled like the little political correct people we should be. I am a very compassionate person, and I dont dis-like any-one unless they have done something wrong to me or mine, and even then I always have forgiveness in my heart. My point is I left that meeting with my smile(fake), when I got home I was upset. Why should I feel guilty about who I am? Just because I am American doesnt mean that I dont have hardships as well, and it doesnt mean I am this horrible person. Please some one give me some feed back I am just curious to know if any one is sick of this propaganda we are being fed constantly! Or it could just be me. I will pray and soul search, and again I am sorry to mess up this beautiful blog with this, it wont happen again. Love to all

Kathy, I agree with you completely. This sounds rude, but it's the way I feel: when you are in America, you do what Americans do. You acclimate to the American way of life. That goes without saying. Why else would you come here if not to be an American? Teddy Roosevelt has a great quote on this link: http://www.theodore-roosevelt.com/trquotes.html regarding "hyphenated Americans." If I went to Mexico, I would not expect everyone to accomodate me by speaking English. It seems to me that as a society in general, we are taught to think of what I am entitled to, what society owes ME. Yes, I feel very blessed to live in this country, and my heart aches for those who live in horrible circumstances. I love the words on the Statue of Liberty: Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free! But when they come, we want them to be part of who we are, not to isolate themselves. What makes our country wonderful (at least one of the things) is that we are relatively safe here and that is because of our laws and ways of life. I feel so helpless-especially when I read Carl Sandburg's biography of Lincoln or other history books-when I see what once was. Our beautiful principles have become so diluted over the years. Yet, God knows the first from the last and each moment in between. Things seem so messy and tangled right now, yet I'm confident that God has each day in His hands, that He can use even the most ugly ordeal to His glory and our benefit. The lovliest things can come out of trying circumstances (just ask me sometime & I'll tell you some of the ones I've experienced myself!). All I CAN do, and all I NEED to do is make sure I'm right with the Lord, and ask Him to restore our nation to what He intended. I'm comforted when I read that our forefathers made a covenant with God-a covenant cannot be broken!
Kathy, I'm so sorry you had an icky time at that meeting. (I'm always looking for the bright side-sometimes it's the only thing that helps)The bright side is that you've experienced this 1sthand & now you can pray in a way that I can't, not having that happen myself. Do you have an understanding school board you could bring this up to along with the other English-speaking mothers? I really hope that your day's going better by now. :)

Kathy {my Georgia sweetie!}~
I don't blame you for being upset & don't mind you mentioning it here. I think Becky {the first Becky} had some wonderful words of wisdom on the whole subject.
It does often seem like we are resented in our own homeland, and yet, I still want others to feel at home here as well. So ~ where IS the answer?

Kathy said...

Oh thank you Becky and Danette, i felt so bad after hitting the comment button, then I felt guilty for being upset. I just felt that the americans were made to feel like we are bad people. I know the mexicans have a saying that where ever you go make it Mexico. I want every-one to feel at home to, but I also want to feel at home. I love people and I have met some wonderful people from Mexico and many other countries, My brother-in-law is from Trinidad and he and his family are some of the best people I have met met. It was just a bad day I guess . Becky you have the wisdom of Solomon Wow you are a wealth of great information! Thanks so much for your kind words Danette and Becky, I just love you both! I am getting ready for Church, so that will make everything better. Thanks Love, kathy

Wow, Kathy, I was floored by that compliment. I have an aunt who is Mexican & so I feel strongly about this issue even more because of her. It's not fair to her family because they followed proper channels in getting here, etc. But I'm glad to hear your day went better. (Also, I'm glad you did hit that "comment button!"
Talk to you soon!!! And Happy Lincoln's Birthday once more!

The sweetest washclothes I have ever seen!!!!! Amazing!

I'm addicted to knitted and crocheted washclothes, but I never knew they came in anything other than "square".
