Our Just Desserts

Yesterday afternoon, while Gabby and I were home alone and waiting for the rest of the family to start trickling in from work, we decided to bake a cake. This was Gabby's first cake baking adventure. She LOVED it and was totally thrilled with the scrumptious looking finished product. She could hardly wait for her "BaPa" (her word for Grandpa) to arrive home so she could show off her great accomplishment. The minute the alarm sounded that he had pulled into the driveway (the alarm would be 3 excited, barking dogs!), she ran to the back door and frantically turned the door knob hollering, "BaPa, BaPa,... Cake, Cake, Cake!". When he finally made it in with an arm full of groceries, stepping over and around doggies to his left & right (it really is the highlight of EVERYONE'S day the minute that man gets home), she climbed back on her chair and stuck out her tummy with a look of intense joy and pride in her eyes while he applauded her achievement in grand fashion! ( Sadly, I didn't have camera in hand for that precious moment). I sat the cake on a side table in the dining room so it would remain uncut until her mommy, the last one to arrive home, could see it. Then when we tried to take it from her to cut and eat, she began to cry. The four of us (Scott, Hilary, Chelsea & myself) began to despair that we would not get to eat cake at all. So, we set her at the table with fork in hand and let her have the first bite and she finally allowed us to cut into her delectable creation. In the end we all got our just desserts!

YUMMY!! Ryan and I made a birthday cake for PaPa(grandpa), today is his birthday, well Ryan licked all the chocolate off the spatula. We just had to add Sponge Bob to the cake(we love Sponge Bob), and we had an extra sponge Bob candy left, Gabby should of helped us with the cake and eat left over Sponge Bobs!

Happy Birthday to PaPa today! And hooray that he gets a winter birthday in the South, away from our cold!

Kathy, I saw on your blog profile that you like Civil War History! Me too! If you ever need reading material, I have some great Civil War books to recommend!

Enjoy your Sponge Bob cake!

What an adorable post! Such a cute little girl... and so sweet that she was so eager for "BaPa" to see her cake!

(The hotel in my post yesterday in in Kennewick, Washington. I think. It's been a few years. But I'm pretty sure that's where we were that month.)

Becky just got back on today, I knew we had something in common, we both love Danette and now I learn you love the civil war era! That is to cool! I will have to e-mail you some pictures of our civil war treasures that we have uncovered, our bed room looks like a civil war museum. If you are ever in Atlanta I will show you some great history, we could go on a dig! Have you ever been to Savannah, we go every year for our vacation, Tybee island is right there to. people dont realize that Georgia has a beautiful coast, it is a well kept secret. Everyone wants to go to Florida, boy they are missing good stuff here! Oh it was very chilly here yesterday, I even had to dig in the back of the closet for my winter coat. YIKES!

Kathy, I'd love to see pictures of your treasures! I think it's so important to hold on to those things as part of our history and to remind us how horrible those times must have been so our nation never has to relive them! The History Channel has some really neat looking shows coming up for the 200th b-day of Abraham Lincoln. I can't wait to compare notes!!
P.S. It's 60 degrees warmer today than it was last week! We feel like Georgians today!

Yes, we have watched the last 2 nights. Thank God something good is on I have had all of obama I can stand, I love politics, but my gosh I think people are going a little over board with this guy!! What happened to Blagovich, now watching him ,that was some funny stuff, his arrogance was very humorous, to me. my husband loves bazaar Foods, and it is on for some strange reason every night. YUK!! cant believe that man is married , I hope his wife does all the cooking!

Poor Blago got thrown to the wayside in all this Obama hoopla! I'm with you: I'd rather hear about Abraham Lincoln than Obama any old day of the week. Who could possibly be fascinating than Lincoln? Besides Ronald Reagan, of course! Or Rhett Butler, perhaps. ;-D

OK, this is my first visit, and wow is Gabby a cutie pie! I'm glad she was so proud of her cake.

(And to be honest, right now I wish *I* had a piece ...)
